Under Pres. Roosevelt’s New Deal, $6500 was allocated to the WPA to build a new schoolhouse, which was completed in June 1938. Ten years later, the building was deeded to the American Legion. The post was named Austin Collins in honor of a local boy who died at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, on the USS Arizona.
