Spring Basin Wilderness is a 6,382-acre protected wilderness near Clarno in north-central Oregon. Created through the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009 and added to the National Wilderness Preservation System when President Barack Obama signed the law on March 30, 2009, it is bordered by the John Day River. The area is notable for its rugged cliffs, remote canyons, and colorful geologic formations, which create a stark, eroded landscape. Its wildlife includes mule deer and bobcat, as well as birds such as golden eagle, prairie falcon, mountain bluebird, California quail, and western meadowlark.
