In 1935, the Tappan Zee Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Park Association deeded this park to the village. The 9 trees around the park's perimeter honor 9 Nyack families whose sons were killed in World War I: Charles R. Blauvelt, Raymond O. Blauvelt, Conrad Crawford, William H. Gardner, Charles A. Gernand, Samuel Hyman, John Ingalls, Paul Leggett, Haliday S. Smith, and Goelet Tiffany. Owned from 1732 by the DePew family, the land had contained many of the village's earliest docks, boatyards, market sloops, sandstone quarries, and factories.
