First known as Carter’s Meeting House, this church stood on land donated by Jesse Carter. Union Primitive Baptist Church was constituted on October 1, 1825. After it burned and was rebuilt in 1854, it became known as Burnt Church. It was restored in April 1998 through a project managed by M. A. Studstill, Jr., and given by the Carter family—Joe P., Patricia, and Carol—in memory of J. Perry Carter, Sr., a great-grandson of Jesse Carter.
