Joe 'Jazz' Diminick was an educator, athlete, and coach who attended Kulpmont High School from 1942 to 1946 and Boston College from 1946 to 1950, earning All-East and All-American Honorable Mention honors in 1948 and 1949. He coached at Coal Twp in 1956 and 1957, at Susquenita in 1958 and 1959, and served as head coach at MCA from 1962 to 1992. He ended his career as the winningest active coach in PA with a 287-96-9 record, including a 267-81-7 record at MCA, and led MCA to become the winningest high school football team in PA with 608 wins and the fifth winningest team in the nation. His teams won Eastern Conference championships in 1969, 1972, and 1973, Southern Division Eastern Conference championships in 1968, 1969, 1970, 1972, and 1973, reached the Eastern Conference semifinals in 1983, 1984, 1986, and 1989, and were District XI runner-up in 1988. He was inducted into the Ed Romance Chapter PA Sports Hall of Fame in 1987, the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 1988, the Boston College Sports Hall of Fame in 1989, the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 1991, and the National High School Sports Hall of Fame in 1995.
