President Franklin D. Roosevelt praised the promptness with which men seized the opportunity for honest work, the willingness with which they performed their daily tasks, and the spirit with which they won the respect of the communities where their camps were located, saying they and the men who guided and supervised their efforts had cause to be proud. More than three million members served in the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1933 to 1942, including those who built South Carolina's State Park System.
