Hatley Pointe
Nature
Hatley Pointe is a ski area near Mars Hill in western North Carolina that opened in 1970 and has long been one of the region’s winter resorts, as well as Madison County’s largest ski-season employer. Formerly known as Wolf Laurel Slopes, Wolf Laurel Ski Resort, and then Wolf Ridge Ski Resort, it covers 500 acres with 54 acres of skiable terrain. Because southern Appalachian winters are short, it has relied heavily on snowmaking since 1976. The resort expanded its terrain over time, endured a failed 2013 sale, a lawsuit, and fire damage, and was bought in 2023 by Deborah and David Hatley, who rebranded it after major improvements.
