Jack Frost–Big Boulder Ski Resort in Kidder Township, Pennsylvania, unites two Pocono ski areas with distinct roles and histories. Big Boulder, opened in 1947, became important in skiing technology when employee John Guresh developed the first usable snowmaking equipment there in the 1950s, a breakthrough especially significant for eastern ski areas. Jack Frost was later created by Big Boulder’s owners to provide longer runs and greater vertical drop. Together they served varied skiing and snowboarding styles, while Big Boulder became especially known for its terrain parks. The resort also helped spur tourism and home buying in the surrounding Pocono region.
