Ladder Creek Glacier, in Washington’s North Cascades National Park, is a northwest tongue of the larger Neve Glacier. It occupies a high, steep part of the range and descends from about 7,800 feet to 6,000 feet. Recorded changes in its extent during the late 20th and early 21st centuries reflect the changing balance of mountain ice in the North Cascades. The glacier advanced 105 meters between 1950 and 1979, then retreated 190 meters from 1979 to 2006, illustrating a notable shift in its behavior over time.
