Ray Schall of Murfreesboro, Arkansas, found a dime-sized white diamond on top of the ground under a nearby tree on November 14, 1981. The diamond weighed 6.07 carats in the rough and 2.88 carats after cutting. Schall, who was known to search the surface of the diamond mine nearly every day, said he could see it was a diamond and fell on it, then called over some people to help him to the office because he was shaking so badly he could hardly walk. He said his method of searching relied on luck more than science, requiring a person to know what to look for and be in the right place at the right time. Graded E-colorless and flawless, the Schall Diamond was cut into a pear-shape gem and sold for $58,000.
