In 1915, the boundary line between Michigan and Ohio was surveyed and monumented jointly by the two states, with S. S. Gannet of the United States Geological Survey associated with the survey. On the Ohio side, the work was carried out by the Ohio Topographic Survey under Inspector C. E. Sherman by authority of an act of May 27, 1915, during the governorship of Frank B. Willis. On the Michigan side, the work was carried out by the Michigan Geological Survey under Director R. C. Allen by authority of Act 84 of the Public Acts of 1915, during the governorship of Woodbridge N. Ferris. On 18 September, 1965, officials of Michigan and Ohio and leaders in civic, engineering and historical organizations met there to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the 1915 survey and monumenting of the boundary line between the two states.
