Belair Stable Museum occupies a former thoroughbred stable on the former Belair Estate in Bowie, Maryland, northeast of Belair Mansion. Built in 1907 for James T. Woodward, it is a sandstone, U-shaped building with a one-and-a-half-story central block, single-story wings, and an open exercise yard, set on 2 acres. The stable reflects Belair’s long association with thoroughbred breeding and racing as part of the Belair Stud Farm. Although the larger estate was sold in 1957 for the development of Belair at Bowie, the stable survived within the new residential neighborhood and is preserved as a museum.
