Hugh Henry was a member of the Watauga Association in 1772 and served with Bledsoe in 1777. In 1778 he took the Oath of Allegiance to the state in Washington District Court of N.C. He joined John Sevier’s Mountain Men at King’s Mountain and was later at the Battle of Boyd’s Creek. In 1784 he was deputy from Washington County to meet in convention at Jonesboro. The Treaty of Dumplin Creek was held at his home on June 10, 1785, and he is buried in Henry Cemetery.
