The Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds in Newton Centre, Massachusetts, began in the 1730s as the country home of Edward Durant II, who bought ninety-one acres in 1732 and completed the house in 1734. Passed to Edward Durant III after 1740, the property entered a new era in 1790 under John Kenrick and later became the center of the Kenrick Nursery, one of New England’s largest plant nurseries. As the estate was gradually reduced, preservation efforts began around 1900. Returned to Durant descendants in the twentieth century, it opened to the public in 1985 and, after restoration, reopened in 2014 as an interactive museum interpreting three centuries of family and working life.
