Stull Observatory at Alfred University in Alfred, New York, was established in 1966 as both a teaching facility and a public observatory. Its roots reach to 1863, when astronomer William A. Rogers donated a 9-inch refractor made by Henry Fitz. After astronomy declined at the university and the original observatory was demolished in the 1920s, the telescope was nearly lost until John Stull helped revive its use in the late 1950s and secured a permanent home for it. Expanded over decades, the observatory grew into an unusually well-equipped academic facility, known especially for its seven independently housed telescopes and continued public and educational role.
