Ray Roberts Lake State Park, a 3,777-acre park near Pilot Point, surrounds Lake Ray Roberts in nine units and serves as one of Texas’s busiest outdoor destinations, drawing heavy visitation from the Dallas–Fort Worth region. Named for Congressman Herbert Ray Roberts, it also preserves a much deeper past: the Isle du Bois area has been inhabited for more than 11,000 years, later home to Native peoples including the Kiowa and Comanche, and still contains remains of a 19th-century homestead. Where the Cross Timbers, Texas Blackland Prairies, and Central Great Plains meet, the park supports diverse habitats, abundant wildlife, and extensive opportunities for camping, trails, boating, fishing, and wildlife watching.
