Built in 1905 by El Paso and Southwest Railroad, the Calumet and Arizona Copper Co., and citizens of Douglas, this building was expanded in 1916 to include a gym, a swimming pool, and other recreational facilities with additional support from the Phelps Dodge Corporation and the Dodge Foundation, and it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
