1
Camp Colorado was originally established on the Colorado River by the United States Army to protect the frontier against hostile Indians. It was moved in August 1856 to this site and was abandoned by Federal troops on February 26, 1861. In 1870 the site became the property of Henry Sackett (1851 - 1928), who built his home here in 1879. From here, in 1874, he and Maltby’s Rangers pursued and defeated the bands of Big Foot and Jape, Comanche chiefs.
