The CCC built the Boy Scout Cabin circa 1936 after constructing the Girl Scout Cabin. Although the Girl Scouts sponsored the construction of their cabin, it is unknown whether the Boy Scouts sponsored or helped build theirs. The Boy Scout Cabin was built of local field stones, reflecting the CCC's practice of using native materials whenever possible in many of its construction projects. Fieldstone buildings offered several benefits: the stones were free and abundant, the finished structure was sturdy and well suited to rustic use, and the builders gained valuable masonry skills that could help them find good jobs after their enrollments ended.
