Hoppy Lockhart is remembered for 40 years of exemplary service to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and for his unyielding commitment to the safety of motorists in eastern Oklahoma. He set high standards in dedication and public service, spending endless hours keeping Interstate 40 serviceable and safe in emergencies and severe weather. During the May 26, 2002, barge impact with the Arkansas River Bridge that caused the collapse of four spans, his leadership and focus assisted in preventing further loss of life.
