This Corliss steam-driven ammonia refrigeration compressor was removed from the engine house/boiler room structure located near this spot. Ammonia compressors of this type were manufactured between 1900 and 1925, though the exact date of installation in the Moultrie plant is unknown. Along with this state-of-the-art compressor, the engine house/boiler room housed a Gardner-Denver steam pump, York Ice Machinery Corporation equipment, and an Ingersoll-Rand Imperial Type 10 air compressor. The engine house/boiler room was the heart of the plant's operation, and records indicate the plant also maintained its own fire department, independent reserve electrical system, and water system.
