Baldwin's Store, which once stood here, was the first business in the town of Many. The town was founded on May 17, 1843, when Judge W.R.D. Speight and others donated 40 acres to the newly formed Sabine Parish Police Jury to create a parish seat. Built by John Baldwin, the store became the center of the town's government, serving as a hotel, tavern, general mercantile, post office, city hall, and courthouse. Its architecture was a double pen dogtrot log house, a style popular in that era.
