Mary and Jacob H. Bassett rebuilt the Log Cabin Inn in 1871 and renamed it Bassett House. The stopover served stage and freight teams traveling between Truckee, Sierraville, Gold Lake, and Downieville until 1906. The Bassett House was known for never letting any wayfarer go away hungry.
