Pomham Rocks Light, a historic lighthouse in the Providence River off East Providence, Rhode Island, was established in 1871 as part of a small group of New England lights built from Albert Dow’s award-winning design. Marking the northern end of Narragansett Bay’s lighthouse system, it served as a federal aid to navigation until 1974. After passing through private and corporate ownership, the lighthouse and its island were donated in 2010 to the American Lighthouse Foundation. The Friends of Pomham Rocks Lighthouse then carried out a major restoration, raising more than $1.5 million. In 2021, the original Fresnel lens was restored and returned, underscoring the site’s maritime history and preservation.
