Teanaway Community Forest is a state-owned community forest and recreation area in the central Washington Cascades near Cle Elum. Created in September 2013 through a public-private partnership as part of the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan, it encompasses 50,272 acres acquired from a private timber company in what was then called Washington’s largest land transaction in 45 years. Its community forest model balances conservation, recreation, and public management. The area includes 127 campsites across three developed camping areas, while private inholdings require visitors to navigate carefully. Management continues to develop under a long-term recreation plan, with debates over uses and the administration of state-owned parcels within its boundaries.
