On this site stood the stone warehouse of Captain Thomas Truss and Marcus Worthington, where meats, grains, and clothing collected by the Confederate government as a war tax were stored. Disabled C.S.A. veteran Felix M. Wood served as receiver of the tax at Trussville. A detachment of Wilson's Raiders under the command of John T. Croxton, Brigadier General U.S. Volunteers, burned the building.
