The people of Falls Township and the surrounding area paid tribute to members of its armed forces who served honorably during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts and dedicated the memorial to fallen comrades with the hope that their names would be the last inscribed in the quest for freedom and everlasting peace. For Korea, from 1950 to 1955, the fallen named were Austin W. Beetle, Jr., Matthew J. Biedka, Robert Gillespie, John D. Hunsberger, Attilio M. Lupacchini, and William Underdown. For Vietnam, from 1961 to 1975, the fallen named were Robert L. Adams, Jr., Mark Afflerbach, Edward N. Beers, Steven Bezenski, John R. Bloschichak, James F. Brennan, Jr., Steven R. Caucci, Terrence C. Connolly, Hopson Covington, Dennis T. Cunnane, Arthur Day, David J. Decker, Michael F. Deeney III, Lawrence DeMilio, James Guest, Donald W. Hallow, Robert Hampton, Jr., Joseph Hanks III, William H. Haworth, David W. Hawpyshko, Theodore K. Kaleikini, Jr., Paul Lavezzoli, Robert Maggs, Laurence T. McDowell, Michael B. McGinnis, Robert W. Meiss, Jr., Terry J. P. Neill, David J. Ortals, David A. Patton, Safford S. Pye, Raymond M. Reeves, Patrick Roy, Lawrence F. Runey, Christopher J. Schramm, Alan R. Schultz, Walter W. Shirley, Jr., Reginald A. Stancil, Stanley R. Stellmach, Jr., Frank Thomas, John W. Thomas, Richard C. Williams, and Joseph Yatsko. Later conflicts and dates recorded were Pueblo on Jan. 23, 1968, Beirut on Oct. 23, 1983, Panama on Dec. 20, 1989, the Persian Gulf on Aug. 2, 1990, and Desert Storm on Jan. 16, 1991, with Nate DeTample named. The Freedom Tree was dedicated with the vision of universal freedom for all mankind to Lt. Paul Worrell and all Prisoners of War and Missing in Action in 1973, and Merchant Marine, Coast Guard, and Seabees were also recognized in a dedication on May 29, 1988.
