Curecanti is a series of three reservoirs along the once wild Gunnison River high in the Rocky Mountains. The reservoirs that make up Curecanti today are a destination for water-based recreation, best known for salmon and trout fishing, and also offer opportunities for hiking, boating, camping, and bird watching. Weather can vary greatly throughout the day, with summer daytime temperatures ranging between 50 and 90F and nights 40 to 60F, while winter daytime temperatures range between -20 and +40F and nights -30 to +20F. Precipitation is minimal, but afternoon thunderstorms and strong winds are common during the summer, snow accumulation varies greatly from year to year, and layered clothing appropriate for the season is recommended.
