Congressman Wayne N. Aspinall devoted most of his life to serving the people of Colorado and the nation. After 16 years in the Colorado General Assembly, including 2 years as Speaker of the House and 10 years as Party Leader in the Senate, he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1948 and served continuously until 1973. He was Chairman of the Committee on Interior and Insular Affairs from 1959 until 1973. Known for his knowledge of western water matters, he authored many important natural resources laws. As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Irrigation and Reclamation, he was primarily responsible for congressional authorization of the Colorado River Storage Project in 1956. In recognition of his long and devoted service, Congress designated Blue Mesa, Morrow Point, and Crystal Dams and Reservoirs as the Wayne N. Aspinall Storage Unit Colorado River Storage Project.
