Lost River Gap and Ford was used by Indians, Hudson's Bay trappers, covered wagons, Fremont in 1846, a railroad survey party in 1855, and soldiers at Fort Klamath. It was the site of the Modoc Indian conference held in hope of averting war with that tribe, of the first water wheel, of the first fish cannery in the Klamath Country, and of stage stops and roads.
