Georgia honored the Georgians who served in major twentieth-century wars and presented casualty figures for each: 77,000 served in World War I, with 1,937 killed in action, 3,319 wounded in action, 67 former prisoners of war, and 54 missing in action; 324,373 served in World War II, with 6,781 killed in action, 11,650 wounded in action, 652 former prisoners of war, and 364 missing in action; 75,000 served in the Korean War, with 740 killed in action, 1,040 wounded in action, 97 former prisoners of war, and 174 missing in action; 228,000 served in the Vietnam War, with 1,584 killed in action, 8,534 wounded in action, 21 former prisoners of war, 38 missing in action, and 13 remains identified; and 28,000 served in the Persian Gulf War, with 13 killed in action, 14 wounded in action, 2 former prisoners of war, and 0 MJA. It also counted more than 1,000,000 Cold War veterans and 660,900 veterans living in Georgia as of 7/1/99, and gave historical totals of prisoners of war, deaths in captivity, and those unaccounted for or missing in action in the Revolutionary War, the War Between the States, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Persian Gulf War.
