In Pine Bluff, Arkansas, the Arkansas Railroad Museum occupies the former Cotton Belt yard and the old St. Louis Southwestern Railway shops, once the railroad’s main heavy repair and erection facility. Preserved with much of their industrial character, the shops contain one of the state’s largest collections of railroad equipment. Its standout artifact is SSW 819, the last steam locomotive built for the Cotton Belt, restored to operation in 1986 and later used on excursion trips. Other notable pieces include Cotton Belt 336 and a St. Louis Southwestern Railway relief train with a 200-ton steam crane and support cars, along with diesel locomotives, cabooses, and specialized work equipment.
