From May 16, 1917, to July 1, 1921, Americans fought in World War I to insure the rights and liberties of small nations, to bring peace and safety to all nations, and to make the world safe for democracy. The "Doughboys" who fought overseas believed it was the war to end all wars, and they did it to keep war from coming onto American soil.
