For thousands of years, this area was a meeting place for Native Americans. In 1860, it became part of a homestead claim by Morris Frost, one of Mukilteo's founders. The lighthouse was built here in 1906 as increasing traffic of sailing ships and steamships created the need for an aid to navigation at this point. Mukilteo Lighthouse Park was once a tidal lagoon, and early twentieth-century views of the light station show the spit of land on which it was built and its appearance before the sea wall was built in 1934.
