The Austin Dam tragedy brought death and suffering, and those who perished are remembered along with William Nelson, who tried to warn of the possibility of a dam failure and of how people lived before the catastrophe. The Austin Dam Memorial Park was supported and enhanced by an art mural project created through Project Based Learning, in which students collaborated through research and teamwork, explored real-world problems and challenges, and were challenged to take ownership and preserve the park for future generations.
