Built about 1849 on the south bank of the Platte River south of Darr, this cabin was first used as a post for trade with Indians. Later known as Willow Island Station, it served as a stage and Pony Express station. In 1938 it was moved to its present site, rebuilt, and dedicated by Dawson County Post No. 77, American Legion, with a tribute to the hardy pioneers who blazed a trail to the golden west.
