Erected on the Oregon Trail four miles east of Fort McPherson in Lincoln County, Nebraska, this building served as a fur trading post and ranch house, then as a Pony Express station from 1860 to 1861, and from 1862 to 1931 as an Overland Trail stage station, dwelling, bunk house, and storage house on the '96' Ranch. In 1931 Mrs. C.A. Williams donated it to the City of Gothenburg, Nebraska, and it was moved from its original site and restored there by Gothenburg Post No. 64, American Legion. It was dedicated to all pioneers who passed this way to win and hold the West.
