Ware Shoals School, built in 1926, served as both a grammar and high school until 1991 and has served as a high school since, while a 1951 grammar school on the campus has served as a middle school since 1991. The town's first school opened in 1905, and after Ware Shoals Manufacturing Company opened its textile mill in 1906, it sponsored the school. Marion B. Camak, born in 1888, came to Ware Shoals in 1924 and served as school superintendent until his retirement in 1955. Designed by J.E. Sirrine & Co. of Greenville, the school was built at a cost of $160,000 and was dedicated in 1926 by Gov. Thomas G. McLeod and State Superintendent James H. Hope. When it opened, it had 23 teachers and 750 students. Riegel Stadium, built in 1935 with federal funds from the Emergency Relief Administration, has hosted many high school, college, and other baseball and football games.
