Los Altos History Museum explores the history of Los Altos and the surrounding area, tracing its change from the orchard region once known as the Valley of Heart’s Delight into Silicon Valley. Opened in 2001 and set within one of the Bay Area’s few remaining apricot orchards, it presents interactive exhibits on the Ohlone people, Spanish and Mexican land grants, settlers, orchardists, and later residents. Its notable features include a 1932 diorama of Los Altos with an operating model of the Southern Pacific rail line, changing exhibitions on local issues, extensive research collections, the 1905 J. Gilbert Smith House, and preserved agricultural structures.
