Hewlett-Packard was founded in Palo Alto, California, in 1939 by Bill Hewlett and David Packard, who began work in a one-car garage during the Great Depression with a $538 investment. First known for electronic test and measurement equipment such as the HP 200A and 200B audio oscillators, the company expanded during the 1940s and became a defining force in Silicon Valley, known for both engineering and the “HP Way.” It later moved into computers, calculators, printers, and other technology products, grew into one of the world’s largest technology companies, and in 2015 split into Hewlett Packard Enterprise and HP Inc.
