Mount Peter, a 1,250-foot peak in the New York–New Jersey Highlands near Warwick, stands on the Appalachian Trail and takes its name from early pioneer Peter Conklin. Known for its hawkwatch tower near the summit and for serving both hikers and passing travelers, the mountain is also a longstanding winter recreation destination. Its north-facing ski area opened in 1936 as a showcase for Macy's ski apparel and has operated continuously since, earning recognition as the oldest operating ski area in New York. With trails, lifts, tubing, night skiing, and snowmaking, it remains a family-run landmark with both scenic and recreational importance.
