The Niobrara National Scenic River extends for 76 miles through dramatic bluffs, diverse wildlife habitat, waterfalls, notable fossil resources, and popular family floating areas. It is part of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System, a designation given to less than 1/4 of one percent of U.S. rivers. Summer from June through August brings highs from the low 80s to the low 100s, lows in the 50s to 60s, occasional thunderstorms with strong winds, common moderate dry winds, and an average of 8.3 inches of rainfall. Spring in April and May and fall in September and October are cooler, with average highs in the 60s to 70s, average lows in the 30s to 40s, and an average of 7.3 inches of rain and snowfall.
