Founded in 1973 in Mendocino, California, Kelley House Museum preserves and shares the history of the Mendocino Coast while serving as the starting point for a popular town walking tour. Its exhibits focus on the industries that shaped Mendocino, especially logging and shipping, as well as domestic life in the 1800s. A notable artifact is a cannon recovered from the wreck of the Frolic, a ship lost in 1850 near Point Cabrillo. That wreck was closely connected to the region’s early development, as its investigation helped spark the local timber industry, and Mendocino was founded in 1852 as a logging community first called Meiggsville.
