In 1836, trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church purchased one acre of land at this location from plantation owner Evan Shaw for ten dollars. Ebenezer Meeting House was built there and remained in use until about 1861. A cemetery stood near the log meeting house, and several gravesites still remain.
