Chemin-A-Haut State Park in northern Louisiana occupies 503 acres, much of it atop a high bluff overlooking Bayou Bartholomew, and its French name, meaning “High Road,” reflects that elevated setting. As one of the earliest parts of the Louisiana state park system, it has long held a place in the state’s recreation network. The park’s significance is closely linked to Bayou Bartholomew, a remarkably diverse waterway with more than 115 fish species, among the highest totals for any North American stream. The park supports camping, fishing, hiking, picnicking, wildlife observation, horseback riding, and summer swimming, with plans for expansion to 750 acres.
