Congressman Charles A. Lindbergh, Sr., who wrote that the farm was his true home and the best of all places to live, was born in Sweden in 1859. A year later his father, August Lindbergh, a former member of the Swedish Parliament, brought his wife and infant son to a farm near Melrose, Minnesota, where C.A. grew up. He later came to Little Falls as a young lawyer, became a prominent member of the community, and served five terms as a United States Congressman from 1907 until 1917. His son, Charles A. Lindbergh, Jr., who became world famous in 1927 for flying nonstop and alone from New York to Paris in the Spirit of St. Louis, spent his boyhood summers in this house, built by his father in 1907. In the years after that achievement, he pursued exploration, scientific research, writing, and conservation. In 1931, the Lindbergh family gave the house and 110 acres of land to the state of Minnesota as a memorial to Charles A. Lindbergh, Sr.
