A route used by Civil War troops led from the Mississippi River over swamp ridges and Indian trails through the areas of Chackbay (Chegby), Thibodaux, Bayou Lafourche, Schriever, Gibson, and Morgan City to Attakapas country. Local militia units took active parts in Civil War engagements.
