Oakdale’s original railroad depot was brought from Peters, California, in 1871 and stood several feet south and east of the present location before it was destroyed by fire. A new depot was then built on the current site, adjacent to F Street. The community of Oakdale was surveyed and laid out as a grid of streets centered on the first railroad depot, and by 1904 Oakdale had become a point of convergence for five railroads.
