The Pember Library and Museum in Granville, New York, was founded in 1909 by Franklin Tanner Pember and his wife, Ellen Wood Pember, as a purpose-built public library and natural history museum. Its early development was closely connected to Franklin Pember. After his death in 1924, museum funding dwindled, and the museum closed to the public for nearly 40 years. In 1973, the Friends of the Museum revived the building and its collections, restoring public access and preserving a local institution created to serve both learning and natural history.
