Potanipo Hill, a 613-foot peak in Brookline, southern New Hampshire, has played an important local role beyond its modest height. Its eastern face became the Brookline Ski Area, among the first lift-served ski areas in New England. The operation later grew into a larger regional destination known as Big Bear and then Musket Mountain before it closed in 1984. Much of the former ski area was later bought by Paul Andres, who began creating a large outdoor art facility there. Today the mountain is open to the public as the Andres Institute of Art, with dozens of works by artists from around the world spread across the landscape.
